RAREPAIR BINGO 2023
Event Details and Schedule
Bungou Stray Dogs: Rarepair Bingo (affectionally referred to as Bungou Bingo from here on out) is a prompt-based fandom event for anyone who enjoys creating fanworks of their favourite Bungou Stray Dogs' rarepair ships—whether that's artists or writers (or anyone else who can put our prompts to good use). Much like a ship or character "fanweek" event, our Bungou Bingo is a zero commitment event with the purpose of encouraging more fanworks for Bungou Stray Dogs rarepairs—the only difference is that our prompts come with a Bingo Card twist. There will be a variety of Bingo Cards, each with twenty-four different prompts to choose from—it's up to you how many of those prompts you decide to fill. The event will run for one month, in November 2023.

FAQ
GENERAL INFORMATION:
→ What is a “Rare Pair Bingo” event? To begin, there will be a collection of Bingo Cards (featuring a variety of different creative prompts) for artists, writers, and any other fandom creatives interested in joining our challenge. Participants will then choose one—or more, there’s no limit!—of our Bingo Cards and, over the course of the event, try to fill as many prompts as possible to achieve a "Bingo" i.e a straight line horizontally, vertically or diagonally across the card. For an extra challenge, participants can even attempt to fill every prompt on the card for a "full house" win.
→ Who is allowed to participate in this event?Since this event is a personal challenge, it does not require any commitments or application forms. Anyone is welcome to join, so long as you are respectful of other participants and follow our rules and guidelines.Do note, that while this event is open to all ages, we will be allowing (properly tagged) adult content. Any participants submitting entries containing adult content will be required to have their age (or “18+” at minimum) listed in their social media profile.
→ How many Bingo Cards will there be?Currently, we are planning to have three categories of cards. “General Cards”, with prompts that are safe for all ages and all participants. “Adult Cards”, with spicier prompts for our 18+/Adult participants. We will also have “Wild Cards”, which will be safe for all ages but include some challenging or (affectionately) cursed prompts for those who get a thrill out of making life difficult for themselves. We will have a better idea of how many cards there will be in each category after our prompt submission form expires. Stay tuned.
→ Can we use multiple prompts at once? Or do we need to create a unique work of art or writing for each prompt to count towards a “Bingo”?That depends on how you want to challenge yourself. A “Bingo” can look like five different fanworks, each based on a single prompt OR it can look like a single fanwork that takes inspiration from five different prompts—or, somewhere in between.
→ How do we share our Bingo entries? We will announce a hashtag (that can be used on both twitter and tumblr) to share your entries. We will retweet/reblog all the entries within the hashtag that follow our submission guidelines during the month-long posting period. We will also have an archiveofourown collection for fic authors to submit themselves to and, for anyone else, a google form to submit entries to us directly for anything that falls through the [unreliable social media platform of your choice] cracks or those who prefer platforms other than twitter/tumblr.
→ Are there prizes for completing a “Bingo”?There will be no "prizes" (unless you count bragging rights — and we do!).
→ What does this event considered a "rare pair"?We consider any ship that isn't one of the Big Two™, aka SKK (Dazai/Chuuya) and SSKK (Akutagawa/Atsushi) a "rare pair".
→ Why is [ship] considered a “rare pair” when it’s more popular than [other ship]? Why are only SKK/SSKK excluded? It’s difficult to decide on a cut-off for this fandom—we received many questions about this, each using different definitions of what is considered “popular”. We decided to base our decision off the numbers on archiveofourown, which isn’t a perfect reading on the popularity of a ship, but a reasonable sample pool for which ships are generating the most content in fandom. At the time of writing this, there are a total of 47731 fics that are ship-centric in the Bungou Stray Dogs tag. If you remove all the entries for Chuuya/Dazai, we’re left with 25434 tag entries. If you remove Akutagawa/Atsushi, we’re left with 21812 tag entries. Two ships make up 47-55% of the tag. For comparison, half the ships flagged in our interest check for being “too popular” didn’t even break the Top 10 after we removed SKK and SSKK from the tags on archiveofourown.Ultimately—and you are welcome to disagree with us!—we just want to see more content for as many ships as possible. However, if this event is a success, we may reassess our position on this in the future.
→ The bingo event looks fun but I want to create something that’s against your submission guidelines. Why don’t you allow [content]?This is a brand new event that we are hosting for the first time—if there’s something we’re not allowing, it’s either for our comfort (as hosts who have to crawl through the tag to curate your submissions) or to make the event run as smoothly as possible for our two-person team while we iron out the format for next time.If we choose to run the event again, we will give our participants a chance to share their feedback with us and we may review our guidelines for next time.If you choose to use our Bingo Cards as inspiration for content that is against our submission guidelines, you may do it unofficially with our blessing—however, we ask that you leave it out of our event hashtag.
PARTICIPATION AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
→ Is adult (18+) or mature content allowed?Yes, but it must be tagged appropriately. We will have more information on what that looks like closer to the event.
→ Will you be allowing “problematic” ships? We will not be banning any ships (unless they fall into our “dead dove” category below). However, like adult content, we understand that there are ships that some people may be uncomfortable with and we will be asking participants to tag their submissions so that everyone can curate their own feeds. That being said, we will not be tolerating any harassment over ships or shipping preferences, either directed at ourselves or other participants. It will be the responsibility of our participants to tag their submissions as well as blacklist any tags they do not want to see.
→ Will you be allowing “dead dove” submissions?Bungou Stray Dogs itself has dark themes and subject matter, so, while it should be expected that fanworks may reflect those themes (and we do not want to limit anyone’s creativity), there is certain content that feels beyond our ability to comfortably moderate. So, respectfully, we will not be sharing submissions that contain the following: — Noncon
— Pedophilia* or Sexual Content of Underage Characters
— Extreme Gore
— Monsterfucking/Beastiality
— Incest*We won’t discourage anyone from taking inspiration from our Bingo Cards to create fanworks that include these subjects, but we will not be retweeting/reblogging them. If you need further clarification, you are welcome to ask.*To expand on this (since it, unfortunately, needs to be clarified): we do not consider age gaps between consenting adults as pedophilia (regardless of when they met) or “found families” as incest. If these ships make you uncomfortable, it will be your responsibility to blacklist their tags.
→ Do you allow poly ships that include SKK or SSKK within them? i.e. Kunikida/Dazai/Chuuya?Yes. As long as it’s not only focused on SKK or SSKK.
→ Do you allow crossover ships or do all characters have to be from Bungou Stray Dogs?At this time, we would like the event to be focused on Bungou Stray Dogs characters. We may reassess our stance on this for future runs of the event.
